Conterno’s Barolo Cicala originates from the cru of the same name in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, one of the most renowned and historic areas of the Barolo appellation. It is produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes grown in vineyards with low yields on calcareous-clay soils, which impart great structure, depth and longevity to the wine. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinification follows the winery’s strictest traditions: fermentation in stainless steel with long maceration on the skins, without any forced processes. Ageing takes place for several years in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a long period of bottle ageing that completes the wine’s development.
Visually, it presents an intense ruby red colour with garnet highlights. On the nose, it is deep, austere and extremely complex, with aromas of ripe cherry, plum and small red fruits, accompanied by notes of wilted rose, liquorice, fine spices, tobacco, undergrowth and light balsamic and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is powerful and structured, with dense, noble tannins, vibrant freshness and a deep, rigorous flavour profile. The finish is extremely long, persistent and harmonious, displaying extraordinary elegance and the potential to evolve over time.
An iconic Barolo with great longevity, ideal for special occasions and for moments of mindful tasting. It pairs magnificently with red meats, braised dishes, game, hearty traditional Piedmontese dishes and mature cheeses.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.
