Aldo Conterno’s Barolo Bussia Colonnello hails from the historic Bussia MGA, in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, one of the most renowned and prestigious areas within the Barolo appellation. It is produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes sourced from the Colonnello vineyard, characterised by calcareous-clay soils that impart great structure, depth and elegance to the wine. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinification follows the winery’s classic and rigorous style: fermentation in stainless steel with prolonged maceration on the skins, aimed at extracting complexity and finesse. Ageing takes place for around two years in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a further period in the bottle, allowing the wine to achieve full harmony and balance.
Visually, it presents an intense ruby red colour with garnet highlights. On the nose, it is broad and complex, with aromas of ripe cherry, plum and wild berries, accompanied by notes of wilted rose, violet, liquorice, fine spices, tobacco and delicate balsamic nuances. On the palate, it is powerful yet elegant, with dense, well-integrated tannins, vibrant freshness and a deep, consistent flavour profile. The finish is long, persistent and harmonious, displaying great character and longevity.
A Barolo of great prestige and character, ideal for special occasions and for moments of thoughtful tasting. It pairs magnificently with substantial red meats, braised and roasted dishes, game, hearty traditional Piedmontese dishes and mature cheeses.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.
