Aldo Conterno’s Barolo Bussia Cicala originates from the historic Bussia MGA (Mezzo-Giro-Appello) in the municipality of Monforte d’Alba, one of the most prestigious and suitable areas within the Barolo appellation. It is produced exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes grown in the Cicala vineyard, characterised by mineral-rich calcareous-clay soils that lend the wine structure, elegance and great longevity. The grapes are harvested by hand and vinification follows the winery’s classic, rigorous style: fermentation in stainless steel with prolonged maceration on the skins to extract complexity and finesse. The wine is aged for around two years in large Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a further period in the bottle to complete its development.
Visually, it presents an intense ruby red colour with garnet highlights. On the nose, it is deep and elegant, with aromas of ripe cherry, plum and small red fruits, accompanied by notes of wilted rose, liquorice, fine spices, tobacco and light balsamic and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is structured and harmonious, with dense yet refined tannins, a vibrant freshness and a solid, consistent texture. The finish is long, persistent and of great finesse, with remarkable ageing potential.
A Barolo of great class and longevity, ideal for special occasions and for moments of mindful tasting. It pairs magnificently with red meats, braised dishes, roasts, game, hearty traditional Piedmontese dishes and mature cheeses.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.
