TASTING NOTES

Production

Giacomo Conterno’s Barbera d’Alba Vigna Francia hails from the historic Francia vineyard, situated in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba, from which the winery produces some of its most iconic wines. The Barbera grapes come from selected plots, cultivated with very low yields and great attention to vineyard management. Harvesting is done by hand and vinification follows the winery’s traditional principles: fermentation with skin contact in vats, without the use of technological interventions. Ageing takes place in large oak barrels, where the wine matures slowly, acquiring depth and complexity whilst retaining the typical varietal freshness.

Organoleptic Characteristics

On the nose, it offers intense aromas of ripe red fruit, cherry and black cherry, accompanied by notes of plum, sweet spices and subtle balsamic undertones. On the palate, it is rich and enveloping, with a pronounced acidity that underpins the structure, tannins that are present yet well-integrated, and a long finish. The mouthfeel is full, energetic and balanced, with a juicy and deep finish.

Occasion and Pairing

A wine of great character and versatility, suitable for both formal dinners and more informal gatherings. It pairs perfectly with traditional Piedmontese dishes, pasta with meat sauce, red meats, roasts, cured meats and mature cheeses.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.

THE WINERY

Conterno

In the municipality of Monforte d'Alba, in the Piedmont countryside, lies the Conterno Winery. Here, the family of the same name that founded the winery is committed to producing and bottling its Barolo in search of the best balance and perfect quality. The winery's constant work has allowed it to evolve into the great establishment it is today, where the oldest traditions are still carefully followed, alongside the most modern and avant-garde techniques, to offer high-quality Piedmontese wines and unmistakably stylish red wines from Piedmont. Since it was founded, the fame of Conterno wines has spread throughout the area, giving the winery a meteoric rise. The success, however, has not affected the stable foundations of the family, which still works together in its production chain today. Their strengths remain the same: care for tradition, a search for expression of the terroir and a deep respect for what Piedmontese nature has to offer. Name and address of producer/distributor: Conterno - Via Ginestra, 1, 12065 Monforte d'Alba (CN). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
