Giacomo Conterno’s Barbera d’Alba Vigna Francia hails from the historic Francia vineyard, situated in the municipality of Serralunga d’Alba, from which the winery produces some of its most iconic wines. The Barbera grapes come from selected plots, cultivated with very low yields and great attention to vineyard management. Harvesting is done by hand and vinification follows the winery’s traditional principles: fermentation with skin contact in vats, without the use of technological interventions. Ageing takes place in large oak barrels, where the wine matures slowly, acquiring depth and complexity whilst retaining the typical varietal freshness.
On the nose, it offers intense aromas of ripe red fruit, cherry and black cherry, accompanied by notes of plum, sweet spices and subtle balsamic undertones. On the palate, it is rich and enveloping, with a pronounced acidity that underpins the structure, tannins that are present yet well-integrated, and a long finish. The mouthfeel is full, energetic and balanced, with a juicy and deep finish.
A wine of great character and versatility, suitable for both formal dinners and more informal gatherings. It pairs perfectly with traditional Piedmontese dishes, pasta with meat sauce, red meats, roasts, cured meats and mature cheeses.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.
