The Marion company is a small family-run business in Marcellise di San Martino Buon Albergo, a 10-minute drive from Verona. The cellar is located in a Renaissance villa belonging to Count Marioni which dates back to the sixteenth century. Marion, founded in the 1980s by Stefano Campedelli, his wife Nicoletta and his brother Marco, covers about twenty hectares and also includes rented land. The company philosophy is based on taking meticulous care in all phases of wine production, especially managing the vineyards to protect the plants’ natural balance. Marion’s Amarone della Valpolicella is a wonderful Veneto red wine aged in small Slavonian oak barrels made from Corvina, Rondinella, Croatina grapes and other local vines. It has an intense, almost see-through ruby colour. It greets the nose with an explosion of fermented fruity aromas, cherry and balsamic notes followed by a spicy aroma of undergrowth. An intense, distinctive taste, where warmth and softness are well contrasted by an acidic kick and an elegant tannin texture. With a fruity finish. Wine for Sunday lunch, perhaps served with a nice wild boar stew.
