TASTING NOTES

Production

The wine is distilled in two stages using a Charentais still, following the Cognac method, resulting in a spirit with an alcohol content of 72%. This is followed by ageing in small French oak barrels for a full 10 years, during which, as well as absorbing the precious aromas of the wood and maturing through exposure to oxygen, the brandy is reduced to 44% alcohol by volume – the perfect strength to express all the flavours and nuances in the glass.

Organoleptic Characteristics

Villa Zarri’s amaro is prepared using cold infusions in alcohol of 28 exquisite aromatic herbs and roots with a bitter yet elegant flavour, including quassia, rhubarb, wormwood, colombo, liquorice, mint, cinchona and gentian. It has a dark amber colour. On the nose, an intense aroma of spices and herbs, with gentian, cinchona and wormwood standing out. On the palate, it is smooth and long-lasting with a multi-dimensional flavour profile.

Occasion and Pairing

A liqueur from Romagna to be enjoyed after dinner with friends and family. Excellent on its own or with a little dark chocolate.

Serving Temperature

THE WINERY

Villa Zarri

In Castel Maggiore, in the province of Bologna, stands Villa Zarri. Built as far back as 1578, it was later renovated in the 1700s, when, under the leadership of Leonida Zarri, it became the base for the production of high-quality spirits, with a focus on Brandy. In 1990, the Zarri distillery was founded, when the first bottle of Brandy was made using Trebbiano Romagnolo and Tuscano as a base. Zarri Brandies are today recognised for their quality, achieved through rigorous scientific research. Placed in French oak barrels from the Massif Central area, the brandies are left to age so that a series of chemical and physical changes take place to enhance their flavours, aromas and colours. Villa Zarri's liqueurs take their inspiration from French Cognac production methods, using the excellent and renowned Trebbiano from Romagna as raw material. Distillation takes place during the autumn months, after which the product is aged in barrels of various sizes for at least 10 years. In addition to the production of high-quality Brandy, Villa Zarri is expanding its product range, offering Organic Nocino, Chardonnay Wine Brandy, Cherry Brandy and Amaro Zarri. Name and address of producer/distributor: Villa Zarri - Via Ronco, 1, 40013 Castel Maggiore (BO). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
