TASTING NOTES

Leonida Zarri is an entrepreneur in the liqueur and spirits industry, owner of the illustrious Select aperitif. During the Second World War he started using Villa Zarri as a family summer residence. Over time the Villa started specialising in the production of high quality Italian Brandy. Villa Zarri uses Trebbiano vines grown in Romagna and Tuscany, ideal for producing wines with a gentle aromatic profile, low alcohol content, high acidity and no sulphites, the basic formula for quality brandy. The wine is distilled in two stages using the Charentais alembic still and the Cognac distillation method, resulting in a liquid with 72% alcohol level. Aged for 10 years in small French oak barrels, imbued with gorgeous wood aromas and refined from oxygen exposure, the ABV level drops to 44%, perfect for bringing all the brandy’s flavours and nuances to life. The Villa Zarri bitter is made of an elegant and bitter blend of 28 highly prized herbs and aromatic roots cold-infused in alcohol, including quassia, rhubarb, wormwood, colomba, liquorice, mint, cinchona, and gentian. Dark amber in colour. It has an intense aroma of spices and herbs, especially gentian, cinchona and wormwood. The mouthfeel is soft and long with a multidimensional taste profile. A Romagna liqueur to be savoured after dinner with friends and family. Excellent on its own or with a little dark chocolate. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Villa Zarri

In Castel Maggiore, in the province of Bologna, stands Villa Zarri. Built as far back as 1578, it was later renovated in the 1700s, when, under the leadership of Leonida Zarri, it became the base for the production of high-quality spirits, with a focus on Brandy. In 1990, the Zarri distillery was founded, when the first bottle of Brandy was made using Trebbiano Romagnolo and Tuscano as a base. Zarri Brandies are today recognised for their quality, achieved through rigorous scientific research. Placed in French oak barrels from the Massif Central area, the brandies are left to age so that a series of chemical and physical changes take place to enhance their flavours, aromas and colours. Villa Zarri's liqueurs take their inspiration from French Cognac production methods, using the excellent and renowned Trebbiano from Romagna as raw material. Distillation takes place during the autumn months, after which the product is aged in barrels of various sizes for at least 10 years. In addition to the production of high-quality Brandy, Villa Zarri is expanding its product range, offering Organic Nocino, Chardonnay Wine Brandy, Cherry Brandy and Amaro Zarri. Name and address of producer/distributor: Villa Zarri - Via Ronco, 1, 40013 Castel Maggiore (BO). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
