TASTING NOTES

Hofstätter winery covers more than 50 hectares of vines, one of the largest in Alto Adige, among the vineyards closest to the winery headquarters on airy, well-ventilated hilly terrain – offering the ideal conditions for ripening the aromatic Gewürztraminer grapes. The vineyard from which ‘Joseph’ originates enjoys an enviable exposure, with cool winds and a sunny climate. To emphasise all of the wine’s characteristics, the grapes are pressed and, after several hours in contact with the skins, allowed to settle and finally ferment in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. In the glass this white wine is bright straw yellow and an excellent expression of the grape variety of origin. Good complexity on the nose, with the typical aromatic backbone built on vivid hints of spices and dried flowers. On the palate the wine is robust and well balanced between the horizontal nature of the aromatic grapes and a freshness that makes it very drinkable. Ideally paired with fish and shellfish, but also pairs well with dishes containing the same spices as those encountered on the nose, in other words most of Eastern and Middle Eastern cuisine. A bottle of Joseph makes a pleasant aperitif with friends, if you want to deviate from the usual sparking wines. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Hofstatter

The Hofstatter Winery is a historical symbol of Alto Adige, guarded by the imposing walls of a 16th century building in the province of Bolzano. The Hofstatter vineyards stretch across the eastern and western sides of the Etschtal, finding a home on soils with different characteristics and microclimates. It was precisely because of this peculiarity that in 1987, for the first time in this region, they were able to introduce the designation “Vigna” for seven of their wines. Heir to an ancient family of winegrowers, Martin Foradori continues to pursue Hofstatter's core objective to this day: to harmonise the centuries-old, unique tradition of their land with an eye for innovation. In fact, the immense heritage of the Hofstatter estate has not precluded the use of modern technology to create a state-of-the-art winery, where new, low-energy concrete barrels are housed. The exceptional finesse of Hofstatter wines confirms that this goal is achieved year after year, yielding sublime examples of both whites, such as the renowned Gewürztraminer, and reds, such as Pinot Noir, that are recognised even beyond Italian borders. Name and address of producer/distributor: Hofstatter - Rathausplatz 7 - 39040 Tramin BZ. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
