D'Angelo's Aglianico del Vulture is made from the eponymous grapes, which mature for 18 months in barriques and an additional 8 months in the bottle. It is a straightforward and powerful wine, reflecting the terroir from which it comes: an area of Basilicata rich in minerals and nutrients, where the volcanic soil imparts rich and complex organoleptic qualities, often with a mineral edge. Aglianico is a lesser-known grape variety, introduced long ago but distinct in its characteristics: rich in polyphenols and tannins, traits that make it long-lived and capable of developing exceptional balance and character over time.
D'Angelo's Aglianico presents itself in the glass with an intense ruby red color, revealing aromas of dried flowers, small black forest fruits, rhubarb, and spices on the nose. On the palate, it surprises with its tannic structure, which is well-defined yet integrated, leading to a long and fresh finish."
Its minerality makes it perfect for pairing with pasta dishes featuring ragù, roasted or baked meats, or with braised sausages."
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 18/20°C.
