TASTING NOTES

Production

Azienda Maeli is a small winery that has succeeded in creating a truly unique product. Winemaker Elisa Dilavanzo has dispelled the myth that Moscato Giallo is merely a sweet sparkling wine for the end of a meal; after years of research, she has launched an intriguing range of wines, all made from Moscato Giallo, showcasing the full versatility of this grape variety. Maeli is, in fact, the only winery to have produced Moscato Giallo in five different styles. The estate is situated within the Euganean Hills Park, in the heart of Veneto. The microclimate of the area, bordered on one side by the Venetian Lagoon and on the other by the Dolomites, creates an environment ideally suited to the production of Moscato Giallo. The vineyards are situated on two slopes of the Euganean Hills: in the northern part, the focus is on the production of Moscato Giallo, which grows in soils mainly composed of marl and limestone; in the south, however, we find red grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and indigenous varieties. Moscato Giallo, a white grape variety from Veneto, expresses itself on the volcanic soils of the Euganean Hills with finesse, elegance and longevity, setting itself apart from any other Moscato in the world. Maeli’s VSQ Moscato Giallo Metodo Classico Dila’ is a Veneto Metodo Classico sparkling wine produced exclusively from Moscato Giallo grapes.

Organoleptic Characteristics

The wine presents a golden colour and a perlage of fine, persistent bubbles. The intense bouquet evokes aromas of white flowers, such as jasmine, fresh herbs, thyme, and the fragrance of yeast and bread crust. The palate is full-bodied and persistent, with a salty and slightly bitter finish, a characteristic note of the region.

Occasion and Pairing

An ideal wine for special occasions, it pairs well with fish and shellfish dishes, such as baked sea bass.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 8–10°C.

Allergens: Solfiti

THE WINERY

Maeli

The Veneto is certainly a region renowned for many of its precious wines. The Maeli winery, founded in 2011, is among their producers. Located in the Euganean Hills area, it exploits, in order to create products of absolute quality, the characteristics of the land, such as ancient volcanic soils with numerous traces of limestone, trachyte and clay that add to the marl and silt at the base of the vineyards. The estate covers about 13.5 hectares of vineyards, situated 280 metres above sea level and the natural habitat of the native grapes that give rise to the famous Moscato Giallo, the winery's main and best known production. Moreover, due to the proximity to the Venetian lagoon, the different exposures that characterise each vineyard, and the considerable temperature ranges typical of the Dolomite territories, the special microclimate contributes to the production of grapes that are able to transmit to the wines particular and significant aromas and flavours of their places of origin. And that's not all! Innovative spontaneous fermentation techniques, using local and natural yeasts, contribute to the production of Maeli's qualities. In addition to 5 types of quality white wines from Veneto such as the aforementioned Moscato Giallo and Dilà, Brut Nature of Metodo Classico included in 2014 in the list of the world's best wines, the company also processes and produces 2 labels of red wines with grapes from Merlot, Carmenere and Cabernet Sauvignon and a special rosé, also from the Euganean area. Name and address of producer/distributor: Maeli - Via dietro Cero, 1/C, 35030 Baone PD. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
