TASTING NOTES

The Marion company is a small family-run business in Marcellise in the municipality of San Martino Buon Albergo, a 10-minute drive from Verona. The winery is located in a Renaissance villa owned by Conte Marioni which dates back to the sixteenth century. Marion, founded in the 1980s by Stefano Campedelli, his wife Nicoletta and his brother Marco, covers about twenty hectares and also includes rented land. The company philosophy is based on taking meticulous care in all phases of wine production, especially managing the vineyards to protect the plants’ natural balance. From the union of Croatina, Oseleta and international grape varieties such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah comes Calto, which is left to age in small Slavonian oak barrels for over 2 years. It is a splendid Veneto red wine that manages to combine power and refinement. An impenetrable ruby red colour, it explodes on the nose with hints of ripe red fruit, blackberry, black cherry, plum jam, cocoa, sweet tobacco, liquorice and a fresh balsamic note. On the palate, it is rich and enveloping. Wonderful tannic texture and excellent full flavour that lengthens the full finish. Very long length. Prepare a super Sunday lunch, rich and tasty dishes, barbecued meat, braised beef or a wild boar stew and the pairing with this wine will be perfect.
