TASTING NOTES

The Sodi di San Nicolò represents the top quality of the production of Castellare di Castellina. First among the Supertuscan to be included in the top 100 of Wine Spectator with the historic 1985 vintage. I Sodi is a great wine Tuscan red wine made from 85% Sangiovese and 15% Malvasia Nera, coming from a single vineyard with calcareous soil, located between 350 and 400 meters above sea level. After fermentation in cement tanks, the wine rests for a variable time from 24 to 30 months in French oak barrels, followed by 12 months in bottle. The result is an elegant and classy wine, complex and deep, with a ruby red color and characterized to the nose by balsamic, spicy and ripe fruit notes. The sip dialogues with the smell adding to the texture, the refined acidity of Sangiovese, a guarantee of the extraordinary ability of this wine to keep and improve over the years. The aging in barrique makes the tannins sweet and balanced. We are in front of a wine to taste on important occasions, perhaps after a further rest in the cellar, ideal in combination with succulent meat dishes or aged cheeses. To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a serving temperature of 16/18 ºC. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Castellare

Cesare Castelli, his daughter Cristina and grandson Federico run the family-owned Castelli Martinozzi estate with passion and devotion. The winery is located ten kilometres from Montalcino, in a position overlooking the Orcia valley and the hills that mark the border of the Maremma area of Tuscany to the west. Dominating the 160 hectares of the family's property, amidst vineyards, olive groves, woods and cultivated fields, is an old building of timeless beauty: the Fattoria Villa San Restituta, the emblem of Castelli Martinozzi. The farm's various buildings are testament to the activities to which the company has dedicated itself over the years. In addition to the cellars in which Brunello still completes its ageing cycle, you can see a granary, a small stable, the carpentry workshop, wood ovens, a mill: all components of a family-run but well-structured farm, over which stands an 18th-century bell tower, marking the passing of time. The Fattoria Castelli Martinozzi is considered "Locus Optimus" for red wine: the exposure of the terroir, the absence of fog and good ventilation create a microclimate that guarantees excellent vintages. Name and address of producer/distributor: Castelli Martinozzi - Villa Santa Restituta 104, 53024 Montalcino SI. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
