TASTING NOTES

Tenuta San Guido was born from the intuition of one man, Mario Inciso della Rocchetta from Piedmont, who found the Tuscan environment to be the ideal place for planting his Cabernet cuttings. A lover of red wines from the chateaux of Bordeaux, he decided to create wines from the Bordeaux blend on his estate. Thanks to the particularly stony soils and the influence of the sea which mitigates the winters and cools the summers, he decided to cultivate varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, which found the ideal place in which to grow. The ageing also follows the practices of Bordeaux: the wine matures for several months in small wooden barrels, or barriques, achieving balance, harmony and acquiring a particular softness. Guidalberto Toscana IGT is a blend made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. The alcoholic fermentation occurs without the addition of selected yeasts, but only with indigenous yeasts, and then it is aged for 15 months in French and partly American oak barriques. In the glass, Guidalberto has a bright ruby red colour. On the nose, it immediately expresses the crisp red fruit of the Merlot, followed up with notes of coffee and aromatic herbs from the Mediterranean scrub. On the mouth, it is full, with dynamic tannins despite the ageing and a freshness which invigorates the palate. Perfect for Sunday lunch, it goes well with red meat. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Tenuta San Guido

A history spanning over 300 years. Today Tenuta San Leonardo is a garden of vines and roses protected by the imposing Trentino mountains that dampen the cold northern winds, while the valley floor welcomes Lake Garda. The Tenuta is an ancient world where winery practices, still traditional and artisanal, yield authentic wines, jewels of Italian oenology, distinguished by their freshness, harmony and elegance. The Guerrieri Gonzaga family is at the helm, and it was Marquis Carlo who was the family's first true oenologist, a great lover of viticulture and oenology. He also passed on his love and passion for vines and wine to his son Anselmo, who today guides and administers the company, listening to every choice from the heart that beats for this estate, loved by the whole family. The estate covers an area of 300 hectares, at an altitude of 150 metres above sea level with 30 hectares of red grape vines. The pebbly soil ensures low fertility but good drainage, guaranteeing quality grapes rich in anthocyanins. In accordance with tradition, the old fermentation cellar contains concrete tanks where the red wines ferment spontaneously, without the aid of selected yeasts, with frequent pumping over and fulling. The barrique cellar and archive meticulously store bottles from all San Leonardo vintages and wines that continue to mature in silence and respect for their value. Name and address of producer/distributor: Tenuta San Leonardo - Località San Leonardo, 1 - 38063 - Avio (TN). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
