TASTING NOTES

The Felsina Winery is an iconic Chianti Classico winery. Founded in 1966 when Domenico Poggiali acquired the farm during a difficult period for Italian viticulture, he chose to invest in its land and make quality wine. Therefore, Domenico and his son Giuseppe, both passionate about viticulture and skilled businessmen, modernised management of the countryside while retaining the traditions and spirit of a place that remains one of the most famous Italian names in the world. The Sangiovese vineyards, where the grapes used to produce Fontalloro IGT are grown, are located within the territory of Chianti Classico in the upper part of Felsina and in the DOCG zone of Chianti Colli Senesi DOCG. Harvesting is done by hand, at two different times, selecting the best grapes and ageing takes place over 18/22 months in French oak barriques and then in the bottle for 8/12 months before being sold. Toscana Fontalloro IGT from Felsina is made from 100% Sangiovese and it is characterised by a beautiful colour: an intense ruby red. On the nose, it boasts complex aromatic variety: blackcurrants, blackberry mix with clear notes of tobacco, damp earth and liquorice. On the palate, soft tannins, beautiful structure and length. A wine with excellent longevity. It can elevate a tasty Sunday lunch to something special and enhances red meat-based meals and stews.

The Ferghettina winery was founded in Lombardy in 1991 from the work of Roberto Gatti and his family, driven by love for the hills of Franciacorta. The cornerstone for the production of this designation and beyond, the Ferghettina wines, with their deep and fine character and their fragrances, are synonymous with safety and quality. Roberto began his production in 1990, thanks to his knowledge on viticulture and the most modern winemaking techniques. His work initially took place on 4 hectares of land in Ebrusco. The first two wines that launch it onto the market come from here: the red Terre di Franciacorta and a White wine. It was from the following year that the story of what is now the Ferghettina’s key product began: Franciacorta Brut. Over the years, the estate has expanded. From those initial 4 hectares, he now manages around 200. They occupy territories that extend over 11 municipalities of Franciacorta, located between Lake Sebino and the Alps. The variety of land used for vines and a organic cultivation regime, together with the extreme care given to the processing thanks to manual work, guarantee that intrinsic quality and that unmistakable style that characterize the wines of the Ferghettina estate.
