Batar is one of Italy’s most iconic IGTs: a white Super Tuscan that tastes of Burgundy but speaks of Tuscany. It was quite a challenge to elevate a white wine in a land of reds, but it has won the race against time. We are amongst the vineyards of Ruffoli, where the two international grape varieties, Chardonnay and Pinot Bianco, are grown at altitudes of between 350 and 600 metres. The galestro soil and south-facing aspect of the Chardonnay vineyards, on sandstone and clay soils, blend with the denser soils on the cooler slope, where Pinot Bianco is cultivated.
This Tuscan blend is a straw-yellow white with golden highlights, boasting bold, distinct and deep aromas: acacia, yellow peach and melon. A delicate, velvety, smooth palate: tropical fruit and buttery notes, in a mouthfeel that seems to go on forever. Querciabella has hit the mark here: a wine with great ageing potential, with a texture that develops over time.
A superb white wine, excellent with cheese-based dishes, particularly blue-veined, mature or flavourful cheeses.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 12–14°C.
