Frank Cornelissen's Terre Siciliane Magma Rosso represents one of the highest expressions of Nerello Mascalese on Etna. It originates from prephylloxera vines grown as saplings on the northern slope of the volcano, at high altitudes and on extremely poor lava soils but very rich in minerals. Yields are very low and viticulture follows natural, non-interventionist principles, with the utmost respect for the ecosystem. Harvesting is manual and winemaking takes place with spontaneous fermentations, without the addition of selected yeasts, clarifications or filtrations. The aging takes place in neutral containers, such as fiberglass tanks or large vats, to preserve the pure expression of the terroir and the vintage.
It appears bright and transparent ruby red in color, with garnet reflections. On the nose it is intense, deep and layered, with scents of small red fruits, cherry, currant and pomegranate, accompanied by floral notes, fine spices, Mediterranean herbs and powerful mineral notes of lava stone, ash and smoke. On the palate it is elegant and vibrant, with very fine tannins, an incisive freshness and an extraordinary flavour. The ending is very long, tense and mineral, with great precision and energy, capable of evolving magnificently over time.
Iconic wine with a strong territorial identity, ideal for great occasions and for moments of deep and conscious tasting. It pairs beautifully with elegant red meats, light game, structured Mediterranean cuisine, and quality aged cheeses.
To best enhance its complexity and elegance, a service temperature of 16/18°C is recommended.
