This is Menfi DOC land: on the east coast of Sicily around Lake Arancio. It features deep soils, rich in pebbles, at an altitude of up to 400 metres above sea level. The designation includes wines that are produced in the area up to 16 km inland from Sciacca at Tenuta Ulmo, a historic location recently renovated as a winery by the Planeta family. Tenuta Ulmo is the homeland of the two grape varieties featured in the cuvée, which are grown in the Maroccoli and Ulmo vineyards. The first of these is drier and brighter, ideal for the cultivation of Syrah grapes, and the second is more suitable for growing Nero d’Avola. This wine is a balanced union of Nero d’Avola and Syrah: the blend is a 50/50 partnership. A Sicilian summer rosé with a fresh, young, and playful drinkability. Following the harvest, there is a brief maceration period of a couple of hours in stainless steel. This extracts precisely the right quantity of polyphenols to create the wine’s attractive pink tone. The must is then fermented in stainless steel at a temperature of 15 degrees Celsius. The soft pink colour is reminiscent of an elegant ballerina dancing to floral notes of strawberry, currants, and mixed fruits, moving with exemplary ease over a fragrant pink garden. This rosé wine is perfect for uncorking when a thirst-quenching, fresh beverage is required on the beach or to accompany everyday dishes, but it is even better when paired with white meats or seasonal vegetables.
