TASTING NOTES

The Castiglion del Bosco winery is located in the beautiful Val d’Orcia natural park, where its Sangiovese vineyards are cultivated with care in accordance with the natural cycle of the vines. The winery applies a non-interventionist philosophy of organic, natural viticulture. The winery aims to produce wines that boast a high quality, recognisability, and integrity. Its products are strongly linked to the land from which they derive their complexity and longevity. Rosso di Montalcino Gauggiole is produced from a selection of the best grapes from the vineyards that surround the historic estate from which this wine takes its name. This Rosso di Montalcino is a bright and lively red in colour, with plenty of vibrancy. On the nose, crisp fruit notes immediately emerge, evoking thoughts of fresh fruit, followed by hints of aromatic herbs and light spice. On the palate, this wine is balanced with a pleasant body. It has a good freshness which indicates excellent ageing potential. It is perfect with dishes from traditional Tuscan cuisine such as tagliatelle al cinghiale. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Castiglion del Bosco

With its fine Tuscan wines, Castiglion del Bosco is a landmark on the Italian wine scene and one of Italy's leading producers of Brunello di Montalcino. Set like a jewel in the heart of the Val d'Orcia, the winery is one of the founding members of the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. Its unusual position on the slopes of a hill, almost hidden from view, makes it the ideal place to get the best from the grapes grown in the vineyards of Castiglion del Bosco and Riparbella. The production process itself tells the story of nature and the human intervention that respects its space and balance: the bunches of grapes are subjected to an initial selection while still in the vineyard, then roll along two sorting tables, where well-trained eyes make a further selection on the best grapes. The berries are then transferred by gravity to the 100-150 hl tanks on the lower level, of a suitable size for the separate fermentation of the grapes from the different vineyards. At the end of the fermentation phase, the wines are transferred to the large, temperature-controlled basement area, where barriques and French oak barrels can be found. The ageing process continues with maturation in the bottle, which, depending on the wine, can last from 6 to 36 months before being released for consumption. The winery is managed by Cecilia Leoneschi, who has been in charge of it since 2003, the year she arrived in Castiglion del Bosco. Name and address of producer/distributor: Castiglion del Bosco - Località, 53024 Castiglion del Bosco SI. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
