Roma Rosso Capomunni is produced by Tenimenti Leone, and is a dry red wine that belongs to the Roma DOC zone. Tenimenti Leone is a young company, founded a few years ago. It is situated close to Rome at the heart of Lazio, between the municipalities of Velletri and Lanuvio, in an important area with regard to nature and art, since these municipalities are located within the Castelli Romani regional park. This area is distinguished by its geological composition as well as by its flora and fauna: in fact, the park extends to the area of the old Latium Volcano, which also gave rise to the basins of today’s volcanic lakes of Nemi and Albano. It is therefore a special kind of terrain, capable of imprinting its essence on the products produced here. Azienda Tenimenti Leone, because of the passion it has for the land to which it belongs and for the grapes themselves, uses certified organic farming methods for its wines, including Roma Rosso Capomunni, which is produced from a blend of 50% Montepulciano, 35% Syrah, and 15% Merlot grapes. As is the case for other wines produced by Tenimenti Leone, in the case of Roma Rosso Capomunni, international grape varieties sit alongside grapes from Italian vines. Of these, the Montepulciano grape is particularly worthy of note. It is able to bring a fullness and softness to the blend along with well-developed tannins. Roma Rosso Capomunni is a deep ruby red in the glass with purplish hints. On the nose, it has soft, fruity aromas of ripe cherries, blackberries, and bilberries. On the palate, it is dry, full-bodied, and soft thanks to ageing in small wooden barrels, but has a balanced tannin taste. Its finish is refreshing with vegetable nuances. A wine for everyday use, it goes well with dishes based on red meats and semi-mature cheeses. To fully appreciate this wine, it should be served at 16/18°C.
