Production

The Donnafugata company was founded in Sicily thanks to the Rallo family, who, driven by passion, have succeeded in raising the perception of Sicilian wine worldwide. Ben Ryé is one of the most beloved Italian sweet wines on the wine scene. A refined Zibibbo passito produced in Pantelleria, a small island straddling Sicily and North Africa, also known as the Black Pearl of the Mediterranean. Even the lava stones that characterize it reveal the volcanic nature of the island, also famous for its lack of water and the strong, constant winds that blow there non-stop all year round. Ben Ryé, from the Arabic, means Son of the Wind. The harvest is manual and lasts about 4 weeks. During the fermentation of the must, the grapes of the withered grapes are added in several batches, for a total duration of approximately one month. It ages for approximately 8 months in steel and then 12 months in bottle. 100 ml: E=691 kJ/165 kcal

Organoleptic Characteristics

With its golden color and bright amber reflections, Ben Ryé presents an intense bouquet of apricot and candied orange, dried figs, honey and hints of Mediterranean scrub, while on the palate it offers its proverbial freshness that balances the sweetness.

Occasion and Pairing

Excellent pairing with blue cheeses and fois gras, but also worth trying with dry pastries and signature chocolate. Extraordinary on its own as a meditation wine.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a serving temperature of 12°C.

Donnafugata

Donnafugata's wines interpret Sicily and passionately describe its sensory universe. Donnafugata was established in Sicily from the initiative of a family with over 160 years of experience in quality wine. The company was founded in 1983 from the Rallo family’s historic wine cellars in Marsala and in the Contessa Entellina vineyards, in the heart of western Sicily. In 1989, Donnafugata arrived on the island of Pantelleria where it began producing sweet natural wines. The name Donnafugata, literally "woman on the run", refers to the story of Queen Maria Carolina, wife of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who fled Naples due to the arrival of Napoleon's troops in the early 1800s and took refuge in that part of Sicily where the company vineyards are located today. The face of a woman on each bottle has thus become the symbol of Donnafugata, inspired by the life of Gabriella Rallo, who gave up her job to devote herself to the Contessa Entelline vineyards, a typically male sector, thus becoming a pioneer of Italian female viticulture.
