TASTING NOTES

Tradition and family: these are the two key words that sum up the vision of the Monte Santoccio winery. It is a small family-run business which, with its four hectares of vineyards, is located in the heart of the classic area of Valpolicella, more precisely in Fumane. The area, nestled between Lake Garda and the Lessinia mountains, has a long tradition of red wines, and is famous above all for the dried (passito) red grape wine, Recioto. We immediately notice that the philosophy of the company, managed with passion and rigour by Nicola Ferrari with the help of his wife Laura, is to produce quality wines based on tradition. Having then worked for the Giuseppe Quintarelli winery, one of the most prestigious companies in the classic area, added a great deal of experience. Grappa di Recioto and Amarone is a distinct, very fragrant and soft distillate, the result of the grape pomace of two very high quality products and which is then aged in steel tanks before being put in 50 cl bottles. From parents like this, only an exceptional product could be born. It is precisely the use of the pomace of these two wines that gives that silkiness, complexity and softness to a product which, despite its 44% alcohol, does not bother the nose or palate at all. On the contrary, the sense of smell is opulent and balanced, a perfect combination of fruity notes, derived from the sweetness of the grapes, and ethereal notes that are striking for their cleanliness and balance. On the finish, we get balsamic and chocolate hints. In the mouth, it is a creamy, warm and unpredictable white grappa. The subtle acidity makes it lively, nervous, up to the finish where it explodes in its balsamic quality. Highly recommended as a meditation product, it is perfect for finishing off Sunday meals and other convivial occasions. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Montesantoccio

A point of reference for Sangiovese vinification in Tuscany, the Montevertine winery was born from the passion of Sergio Manetti and his friendship with the “Sangiovese whisperer” Giulio Gambelli. The reality of Montevertine was born almost as a game, as the holiday home of the industrialist Manetti where he began making wine from just a few bottles. The success of his wines soon led him to dedicate himself to them full-time. Today, his son Martino runs the company with the same enthusiasm. The monovarietal Sangiovese Pergole Torte has become not only the symbol of the winery but also one of the symbols of Sangiovese vinified in the Chianti Classico area, thanks to a unique terroir, that of Radda in Chianti, and a perfect alchemy with the work of the Manetti family. Organic farming principles are adopted for the cultivation of the 18 hectares of Montevertine vineyards, the practices of which ensure the exaltation of territorial characteristics. Montevertine wines are made even more special and recognisable by the labels used, designed by artist Alberto Manfredi. Name and address of producer/distributor: Montevertine - Località Montevertine, Radda In Chianti, Si 53017. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
