TASTING NOTES

At the end of the nineteen-nineties, at just over twenty years old, Andrea Arici, assisted by his family, decided to recover some old terraced vineyards in Gussago, far east of the Franciacorta area. With the 2002 harvest, he decided, together with his friend Nico Danesi, to allocate a small part of that vineyard to the production of a modest quantity of wine, which would become Franciacorta. From that first “sparkling wine base”, the adventure of Cantina Arici continues. The terroir on which the Pinot noir and Chardonnay vines are planted has very special characteristics: perfectly draining active limestone, capable of imparting great minerality and salinity to the wines. It is precisely out of respect for the land and Andrea's strong intuition that it was decided to produce exclusively pas-dosé, precisely to let the land speak for itself. The Colline della Stella project has become more and more concrete and solid, and production of this characterful wine has gradually increased to around 60,000 bottles per year. Arici's Franciacorta Dosaggio Zero is a sparkling wine made from a selection of predominantly Chardonnay with a small blend of Pinot Noir from vineyards located between 150 and 350 metres. After fermentation, it rests for about 6 months in stainless steel on its own lees, which is followed by ageing on the lees for between 18 and 30 months. This is followed by further bottle ageing for about 4 months. Straw yellow in colour, on the nose we can appreciate marked notes of white flowers, citrus fruits and bread crust, followed by a distinct minerality. On the palate it is dry and savoury, a characteristic given by the soil. Perfect with an aperitif, it goes well with fish and shellfish based dishes. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Arici

The story of this winery began in the late 1990s, when the founder decided to restore some old terraced vineyards in the far eastern part of the Franciacorta terroir of Gussago. After years of work to restore the vines in the area to their former glory, amid the recovery of ancient traditions and the study of innovative, avant-garde techniques, the results were incredibly promising. The terroir on which the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines are planted has very special characteristics: perfectly draining active limestone, capable of imparting great minerality and salinity to the wine produced. The initial decision to allocate a small part of that vineyard to the production of a modest quantity of Franciacorta proved to be successful, giving the Arici winery unexpected yet well-deserved popularity. From that first “sparkling wine base”, the Arici adventure has continued to take the production of Lombardy wines to new heights. Name and address of producer/distributor: Arici - Via Forcella, 70, 25064 Gussago BS. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
