TASTING NOTES

The Franciacorta Brut Blanc de Blancs Marchese Antinori is a white sparkling wine produced by Tenuta Montenisa, belonging to the Franciacorta DOCG. Tenuta Montenisa is located in the province of Brescia, in the region of Lombardy, and belongs to the Antinori family. This ancient and important family, which has been established on the Italian wine scene for centuries, despite being known mainly for its production of red wines, has always shown a particular interest in sparkling wines. Today, the Antinori family celebrates the 26th generation of winegrowers, since Giovanni di Piero Antinori joined the Arte dei Vinattieri in 1385, a Florentine guild founded in 1297 with the aim of protecting those who joined and worked as winemakers. However, it was in 1905 that Piero and Ludovico Antinori, Giovanni di Piero Antinori's descendants, invited them to their estate in Tuscany, in San Casciano in Val di Pesa, following a trip to French Champagne. With the help of Charlemagne, a renowned chef de cave from Epernay, they produced the Gran Spumante Antinori with the Metodo Classico in 1908. In 1975, the Antinori family further affirmed their interest in Italian sparkling wines by founding, together with other important families, such as Ferrari, Contratto, Gancia, La Versa and Carpenè, the Istituto Italiano Metodo Classico, known under the name and brand name “Talento” since 1996. Following its success, in 1999 the Antinori family decided to purchase the vineyards in the Franciacorta area surrounding the villa owned by Maggi. It is in this area highly suited for the production of Italian sparkling wines that the Antinori decided to produce their Metodo Classico wines. The mainly moraine-derived soils, the gentle hillsides and the regulated temperatures, also thanks to the action of the breezes from Lake Iseo, create a perfect terroir for the Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc grape varieties. As a result, Tenuta Montenisa's Franciacorta Brut Blanc de Blancs Marchese Antinori was born, produced only with white grapes such as: 85% Chardonnay and 15% Pinot Bianco. In the glass, this Metodo Classico sparkling wine, produced with a second fermentation in the bottle and a 24-month resting period on the lees, reveals a delicate straw yellow colour, with a fine and persistent perlage. On the nose, it expresses citrus and white peach nuances, mixed with floral notes and fragrant hints of bread and pastries. On the palate it is fine, with fruit notes and the perlage emphasising freshness and full flavour on the finish. Ideal for an aperitif with friends, it goes well with hors d'oeuvres or fish and shellfish dishes. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Tenuta Montenisa

For some, the name “Franciacorta” originated from “Petite France”, an affectionate name Charlemagne gave to the area; others, however, think the name originated from “curtes francae”, a type of medieval monastic court. Which statement is true between the two is unknown. It is true, however, that Tenuta Montenisa is able to bring out the unique qualities of the Franciacorta area to the fullest. It is also true that, thanks to its commitment and meticulous and constant work, the winery is now a point of reference in the production of Lombard wines of the highest quality, capable of representing the most authentic side of the territory of origin in every glass. The farm is located a short distance from the village of Calino, one of the most characteristic places in the area, and has always been committed to protecting the unique characteristics of the land on which it stands. A fertile, mineral-rich area that, combined with a temperate microclimate, contributes to the growth of excellent grapes. Name and address of producer/distributor: Tenuta Montenisa - Via Papa Paolo VI, 25046 Calino (BS). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
