Cottanera is a winery located in the stunning landscape of Mount Etna since the 1960s, when Francesco Cambria began to cultivate a vine that has grown here for thousands of years. Francesco's children and now his grandchildren have undertaken a thorough renewal of the winery and wine-making practices, making Cottanera a record holder on the Italian wine scene. Etna Rosso Contrada Diciassettesalme is made from Nerello Mascalese grapes, the volcanic area’s native vine par excellence, expressed in the glass with the distinctive and fascinating minerality that is typical of its terroir. Manual harvest, selection and destemming precede fermentation in stainless steel and ageing for about 8 months in large barrels. The wine is a bright ruby red colour that expresses harmonious and elegant aromas, a fusion of fruity sensations and mineral hints that recall the lava stone. On the palate it is satisfying, full and decisive, with distinguished tannins. A set of nuances which, both on the nose and on the palate, bring out the distinct full flavour that is characteristic of this terroir. Perfect with especially meat-based preparations and local dishes.
