TASTING NOTES

Grignano is born in the heart of Chianti Rufina, which is a historic wine production area. Chianti Rufina is the smallest of the Chianti subregions and is considered among those best designed to ensure the uniform quality of the wines produced, so much so that it was officially mentioned by Cosimo III in his Edict of 24 September 1716, which classified the wine produced in this area among the best four in Tuscany. The grapes that make up the Poggio Gualtieri reserve come from vineyards halfway up the hill, between 300 and 400 metres above sea level. 90% Sangiovese is blended with 10% Merlot, which enlivens the flavour. After vinification in stainless steel, malolactic fermentation is carried out in large barrels and barriques, with ageing divided between large 18 hl barrels and small French barrels. Before sale, the red wine rests in the bottle for a year. The ruby red colour in the glass is highly concentrated. Complex nose of small red berry fruit on a background of sweet spices and vanilla produced by the wood. Full, firmly structured and elegant palate, supported by a well composed tannin leading to a balsamic finish. A bottle to place in the middle of the table and enjoy calmly for Sunday lunch, pairing it with hearty white meat and vegetable dishes.
