TASTING NOTES

Production

Françoise Bedel’s Extra Brut “Origin’elle” Champagne is the Maison’s entry-level cuvée, designed to offer an immediate and vibrant connection with the estate’s biodynamic philosophy. Produced mainly from Pinot Meunier grapes from the Marne Valley, this wine reflects the generosity of the grape variety combined with exceptional artisanal craftsmanship. Fermentation takes place in small wooden barrels and steel vats, followed by ageing on the lees for around three or four years. The low dosage of the Extra Brut allows the natural freshness and minerality of the clay soil to emerge with great clarity.

Organoleptic Characteristics

In the glass, it presents a bright straw-yellow colour, with a fine, lively perlage. On the nose, it is a dance of fresh, inviting aromas: crisp apple, pear and citrus are clearly perceptible, accompanied by delicate floral notes and a hint of fragrant yeast reminiscent of bread crust. On the palate, it is crisp and dynamic; the attack is fresh, with a nimble structure that retains the typical roundness of Meunier, finishing with a savoury, clean and pleasantly persistent aftertaste.

Occasion and Pairing

Thanks to its striking freshness and sincerity, Origin’elle is the ideal Champagne for an aperitif or to accompany convivial moments. It pairs perfectly with refined canapés, light fried fish, white fish carpaccio or fresh goat’s cheese. It is a sparkling wine that goes straight to the essence, offering a harmonious and sunny sip that immediately invites a second glass.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a serving temperature of 8/10°C.

THE WINERY

Francoise Bedel

Frank Cornelissen is one of the most iconic and visionary estates in Etna’s viticulture, a synonym for purity, experimentation, and absolute respect for nature. Founded in the early 2000s by the Belgian-born winemaker of the same name, the estate was created with the goal of expressing Etna in its most authentic and primordial form, free from technical manipulation or compromise. Cornelissen’s philosophy is rooted in the belief that wine should be a direct expression of its land and vintage, a living and evolving entity that tells the soul of a unique place. The vineyards are located on the northern slopes of Mount Etna, between the villages of Solicchiata and Randazzo, at altitudes ranging from 600 to 1,000 meters above sea level. Here, on volcanic soils rich in minerals and microelements, wines of remarkable energy and personality are born, wines that balance the raw power of the volcano with the delicate touch of human care. Many of the vines, some over a century old, are trained in the traditional alberello system and cultivated through natural farming practices, with no chemical inputs and minimal intervention both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Vinification follows spontaneous fermentations, no clarification or filtration, and a very limited use of sulfur. Each wine is the result of an uncompromising pursuit of purity and harmony between substance and place. Among the key grape varieties are Nerello Mascalese and Nerello Cappuccio for the reds, Carricante and Grecanico Dorato for the whites, interpreted in a distinctive and radical style. The result is deep, vibrant, and authentic wines that embody both the strength and fragility of Etna, capable of stirring emotion and challenging convention. Every bottle from Frank Cornelissen is a sensorial journey into Sicily’s volcanic nature, an ode to freedom and the truth of wine. Producer/distributor name and address: Frank Cornelissen Azienda Agricola – Via Canonico Zumbo, 1 (frazione Passopisciaro), 95012 Castiglione di Sicilia (CT). The cellar products should be stored in a cool, dry place, away from heat sources.
