TASTING NOTES

The Donnafugata company was established in Sicily by the Rallo family whose passion for wine making has elevated the perception of Sicilian wine all over the world. Floramundi is a refined red dialogue between two souls - Nero d'Avola, king of Sicily’s red grape varieties and Frappato, one of Sicily’s oldest grape varieties, which together create the prestigious Cerasuolo di Vittoria denomination, the only DOCG on the island. Vittoria is an enchanting city in south-eastern Sicily surrounded by lush countryside, home to Donnafugata’s 36 hectares of vineyards. Frappato grapes are harvested between the second and third week of September, while Nero d'Avola is harvested during the last week of September. After alcoholic and malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged in tanks for 8 months, followed by at least 7 months of ageing in the bottle. With a bright cherry colour, Floramundi offers aromas of black cherry, blueberry and plum, with notes of pink flowers and black pepper. The soft tannins give the wine a pulpy and round mouthfeel. A unique red wine to try with fatty fish, such as swordfish with citrus fruits, aubergine parmigiana, or roast pork. Very pleasant as an aperitif with cold cuts. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Donnafugata

Donnafugata's wines interpret Sicily and passionately describe its sensory universe. Donnafugata was established in Sicily from the initiative of a family with over 160 years of experience in quality wine. The company was founded in 1983 from the Rallo family’s historic wine cellars in Marsala and in the Contessa Entellina vineyards, in the heart of western Sicily. In 1989, Donnafugata arrived on the island of Pantelleria where it began producing sweet natural wines. The name Donnafugata, literally "woman on the run", refers to the story of Queen Maria Carolina, wife of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon, who fled Naples due to the arrival of Napoleon's troops in the early 1800s and took refuge in that part of Sicily where the company vineyards are located today. The face of a woman on each bottle has thus become the symbol of Donnafugata, inspired by the life of Gabriella Rallo, who gave up her job to devote herself to the Contessa Entelline vineyards, a typically male sector, thus becoming a pioneer of Italian female viticulture. With its Sicilian red wines, Donnafugata represents the excellence of Made in Italy, creating a perfect dialogue between art, wine and sustainability. The high quality of these wines is closely linked to a sustainable approach, aimed at safeguarding biodiversity, which is essential for creating authentic wines that are attentive to organic and sustainable viticulture. Name and address of producer/distributor: Donnafugata - Via Sebastiano Lipari, 18, 91025 Marsala (TP). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
