TASTING NOTES

Barolo Riserva Monfortino is a Piedmontese red wine easily considered one of the most iconic and legendary wines of Italy, comparable to the sacred idols of world oenology. The first label appeared in 1924 as a dedication to the origin of Monforte by the Conterno family. Since 1974, Monfortino has been produced exclusively from the best grapes grown in the Francia vineyard in Serralunga. After a selection made with dedicated care and attention, the grapes are fermented and the wine is then aged in large Austrian wooden barrels. As they age, the Monfortino plots are monitored daily to determine whether or not they meet the very high quality standards that Conterno sets for this wine. After having spent six years in barrels, Monfortino rests further in bottles before release. In the glass, Monfortino is ruby red in colour, dense and with shades tending toward garnet. The complexity on the nose is irresistible and clear at the same time. Notes of macerated red berry fruit slowly unwind into a web of spicy hints of liquorice, potpourri, balsamic and bergamot. On the palate, this wine delivers a surprising balance between the ample, structured part of this wine and the flavoursome, vigorous, sleek part, which has good length thanks to its textbook tannin. Drinking Monfortino is a unique and pleasant experience, which is why it is recommended to be enjoyed on special occasions, alone or paired with robust game dishes. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Conterno

In the municipality of Monforte d'Alba, in the Piedmont countryside, lies the Conterno Winery. Here, the family of the same name that founded the winery is committed to producing and bottling its Barolo in search of the best balance and perfect quality. The winery's constant work has allowed it to evolve into the great establishment it is today, where the oldest traditions are still carefully followed, alongside the most modern and avant-garde techniques, to offer high-quality Piedmontese wines and unmistakably stylish red wines from Piedmont. Since it was founded, the fame of Conterno wines has spread throughout the area, giving the winery a meteoric rise. The success, however, has not affected the stable foundations of the family, which still works together in its production chain today. Their strengths remain the same: care for tradition, a search for expression of the terroir and a deep respect for what Piedmontese nature has to offer. Name and address of producer/distributor: Conterno - Via Ginestra, 1, 12065 Monforte d'Alba (CN). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
