The Vietti winery was founded at the end of the 19th century by Carlo Vietti in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto in the heart of the Barolo production area immersed in the Langhe. Today, the Vietti name is recognised worldwide as one of the most important wine producers in the world thanks to the work of four generations and, above all, of Luciana Vietti and Alfredo Currado who introduced great little innovations such as the first production of cru Barolo, the vinification of pure Arneis and designer labels. A path later followed by his son Luca Currado Vietti and his wife Elena. Today, the winery has expanded thanks to the acquisition by Krause Holding. Which left Luca and Elena at the helm of the company. The vineyards are all cultivated in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto and Barolo DOC. The main grape variety is Nebbiolo, responsible for the great Barolo wines, but Vietti also produces Barbera, Dolcetto and Arneis. The terroir in this area is characterised by the production of wines with good structure and fruit but also elegance and freshness. Some can continue to age in the bottle for decades. The Vietti winery owns vineyards in some of the most important crus of Barolo including Brunate, Lazzarito and Ravera. Vietti Barolo Cerequio is a dry red wine made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes from the single vineyard of Cerequio, located in the municipality of Barolo, with vines on average 35 years old. The grapes are harvested strictly by hand, followed by soft pressing and fermentation for about 3 weeks in stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins. This time includes pre- and post-fermentation maceration using the traditional submerged cap method, followed by malolactic fermentation in wood. It takes about 32 months between ageing and malolactic fermentation in large oak barrels. Deep ruby red in the glass, Barolo Cerequio is intense on the nose with notes of red berry fruit and fine spices. On the palate it is full, with fruit and citrus notes of strawberry, plum and cherry. The tannin is fine and striking at the same time, sustaining the wine’s enveloping and persistent structure. This wine stands out thanks to the harmony and complexity of one of the most important crus in the land of Barolo. Balsamic notes are detected on the finish, resulting in a wine of rare elegance and balance. Recommended pairing with red meat, roast, game, or medium-mature cheeses.
