Production

L’Amarone Classico della Valpolicella is crafted from a blend of indigenous red grape varieties from the Veneto region, featuring 70% Corvina, 15% Corvinone, 10% Rondinella, and 5% other native red grapes. The cultivation system used is the pergoletta, and during manual harvesting, the Secondo Marco winery selects only the best bunches, which are then dried for about 120 days. The must ferments for 45 days, macerating with the skins. The wine then undergoes an important aging phase, spending the first 42 months in 50-hectoliter oak barrels, followed by an additional 12 months of maturation in the bottle.

Organoleptic Characteristics

The Amarone della Valpolicella Classico from the Secondo Marco winery reveals itself in the glass with a dark, dense color reminiscent of ruby. The nose is deep, showcasing sensations of small red and black fruits, interwoven with hints of spices and lightly roasted coffee. On the palate, it has excellent body—vigorous, smooth, and warm—with a consistent and flavorful profile. The well-integrated tannins enhance the wine's smoothness, making each sip enjoyable.

The Secondo Marco winery is located in Fumane, in the heart of Valpolicella Classica. The area enjoys a perfect microclimate: a combination of winds and a cold-mild climate, particularly favourable for the development of vines. The soil is rich in mineral salts and is very variable in stratigraphy, even for vineyards in the same locality. This is combined with the variables of research in the winery to bring out all the full flavour and richness of the grape's aromas. The company comes from a family tradition, with the desire to change and offer something new but with the intention of leaving room for the new generation. The company, after years of continuous research and observation in the vineyard and soil, decided to be the first to adopt the modified Y-shaped pergola planting, altering the traditional cultivation method used for the vines of Valpolicella. The advantages were mainly to allow more light, ventilation and leaf structure for the vines. The bunches of grapes grow perfectly in a hanging manner, without touching the shoots and avoiding invasive maintenance with greater ease of harvesting during the harvest period.
