The company history began in 1823, when Johann Lageder, apprentice artisan, started trading wines in Bolzano. His sons and nephews decided to buy some vineyards and produce wine themselves. Today, the family's 50 hectares of vineyards are cultivated entirely using the biodynamic method. An important objective of biodynamics is the full natural cycle. The farm functions as an organic microcosm, where a wide variety of plants and animals coexist alongside humans. The winery is located in Magrè, on the outskirts of Bolzano, producing around 1.5 million bottles per year in three different lines, from around 170 hectares of vineyards. Alois Lageder's Alto Adige Cabernet Sauvignon Cor Römigberg is one of Trentino’s most symbolic red wines. Inspired by his frequent exchanges with winemakers from around the world in the 1980s, Alois Lageder decided to introduce Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot vines to this plot, originally planted with Schiava. The vineyards are located north-west of Lake Caldaro at an elevation of 250-330 metres. This parcel of land is named Cor, heart in Italian. Fermentation is carried out with both de-stemmed and whole bunches followed by ageing in barrels of different capacities for several months, maturing for the final year in the bottle. Cherry in colour with garnet reflections, hints of small berry fruit on the nose, followed by spicy and floral notes. Dry, persistent and elegant on the palate with good tannin and a freshness that draws the drinker in. A great wine that is fantastic with Sunday lunch or perhaps a barbecue.
