TASTING NOTES

Chianti Rufina is the smallest of the Chianti subregions, and is considered among those best designed to ensure the uniform quality of the wines produced, so much so that it was officially mentioned by Cosimo III, who classified the wine produced in this area among the best four in Tuscany. Grignano's interpretation of one of Tuscany's iconic wine-making products is outstanding. Trebbiano and Malvasia Bianca Lunga grapes come from vineyards located at an altitude of 300 metres. Selection in the vineyard during harvest is meticulous. During drying, the grapes are hung in ventilated rooms for around three months. Afterwards, pressing takes place and the must is put into typical oak barrels, where alcoholic fermentation takes place. After five years of ageing, the wine is released on to the market. In the glass, the sweet wine shows an intense, limpid amber colour, the nose is of great complexity, built on dried apricot and a notable hint of dried fruit. The palate is full and firmly structured, where the sweetness is superbly supported by an acidity that leads to a pleasantly persistent finish. A bottle to open at the end of dinner, to be successfully paired with a plate of mature cheeses. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Grignano

A point of reference for viticulture in the Chianti Rufina area, north-east of Florence, close to the Apennines, lies Fattoria Grignano. The history behind this place is very ancient: the earliest records date back to the Bronze Age, not to mention the remains of Etruscan and Roman buildings that can be seen here. Well aware of its historical and territorial relevance, the Inghirami family purchased these 600 hectares in the heart of Tuscany in 1972. The Grignano vineyards grow luxuriantly on clay and limestone soils, at an altitude of up to 400 metres above sea level. Together with excellent sun exposure and a microclimate consisting of climatic variations, these elements guarantee excellent maturation of the grapes, which are rich in aromatic notes. Fattoria Grignano wines undergo intense ageing processes: depending on the designation, they pass from oak barrels or French barriques to bottles, where they stay for a further six months. Fruit of the peculiarity of the place and the extreme care of its managers is an elegant wine that best represents the character and freshness of the Rufina grapes, Sangiovese above all. Name and address of producer/distributor: Grignano - Via di Grignano, 22 - 50065 Pontassieve (FI). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
