To crown an unforgettable career, in 2016 Silvio Jermann was honoured in Rome by a jury of international journalists, chaired by Gambero Rosso, as the world’s most representative producer of white wines. Jermann’s Ribolla Gialla Vinnae was first produced in 1983 to celebrate the centenary of the winery founded in Friuli Venezia Giulia by Anton. It is actually a blend, with minimal amounts of Friulano and Riesling Renano. Like Riesling, Ribolla is one of the white wines with the highest acidity, which gives it exceptional drinkability and freshness. After fermentation in steel, part of the wine is aged in large oak barrels, the remainder in steel vats, before being blended again to achieve a wine with the right body. In the glass, it has a bright, pale straw colour, which translates to the nose as fruity and mineral notes. The palate is as fresh as it is savoury.
It pairs well with fish and shellfish dishes, and is also perfect as an everyday aperitif.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 10–12°C.
