Production

Nino Negri’s Valtellina Superiore Valgella is made from Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca) grapes grown on the terraced vineyards of the Valgella sub-zone in Valtellina. The vineyards, situated on steep slopes of Alpine origin, are tended by hand. Vinification takes place in stainless steel with skin contact, whilst ageing occurs in oak barrels and subsequently in the bottle, to develop elegance and complexity whilst maintaining freshness and terroir. 100 ml: E=307 kJ/74 kcal

Organoleptic Characteristics

Ruby red in colour with garnet highlights. On the nose, it reveals notes of cherry, small red berries and dried rose, accompanied by spicy, balsamic and mineral hints. On the palate, it is elegant and linear, with fine tannins, good freshness and a long, harmonious finish.

Occasion and Pairing

A refined, terroir-driven wine, ideal with red meats, roasts, game and traditional Valtellina dishes, as well as mature cheeses.

Serving Temperature

Of all the wine cellars in Lombardy, perhaps Nino Negri's is one of those that has succeeded best in combining traditional techniques with the most complex and avant-garde innovations. Between French and American oak barriques, the oldest traditions of the Valtellina region, where the winery and its vineyards have been in operation for more than a century, still find their place. After careful renovation work aimed at striking a balance between old and new, the company has created a production of high-quality grappas and Lombardy wines with a strong character and rich history. Its territory lies on the slopes of the Valtellina mountains, in an area sheltered from the north wind and exposed to the sun. The area's microclimate is exploited to the full during cultivation, in order to be able to count on excellent grapes that give the final product a class and finesse that is typical of Lombardy.
