TASTING NOTES

Mongrana dates back to 2000, when Querciabella decided to pursue a 42-hectare seaside estate in the wilds of Maremma, in the north of Tuscany. Close to the sea, sheltered by the Uccellina plateau and surrounded by nature. Mongrana Rosso made from Sangiovese takes its name from a family of noble knights depicted by Ludovico Ariosto in his masterpiece Orlando Furioso: noble knights with character, a bit like Mongrana. Three native international grape varieties take centre stage: Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grape varieties are vinified individually and then used to form a blend which then rests in concrete tanks for 10 months until full maturation. Mongrana is a fascinating wine with an intense ruby red colour, aromas of ripe fruit, morello cherry, blueberry and ivy. It is ethereal on the palate: coffee, leather, liquorice enhance a juicy but soft flavour. An easy to drink wine, perfect for taking to a party when you do not know the host, for drinking with friends, ideal with red meats, but also very versatile with Mediterranean dishes. THE WINERY

Querciabella

The origins of the Querciabella winery have ancient roots, but its foundation only dates back to the 1970s. Originally, it wasn't even meant to be a winery in the true sense of the word: its founder had been impressed by the area that local winegrowers called “Vigna della Querciabella” because of the imposing oak tree that stood on the land. The founder's initial idea was to create wine for himself and a few friends, based on his passion for wine growing. Precisely this fact has made Cantina Querciabella one of the most interesting wineries in Tuscany’s wine panorama. The family's study and commitment have been combined with the most innovative techniques, combined with the knowledge of local farmers, leading to the creation of Tuscan wines of the highest quality, capable of conveying the best of the territory in every glass. Organic and sustainable cultivation is another of the company’s strengths, which has always been in love with the land and its unique characteristics. Its hectares of land are mainly cultivated with Sangiovese, which is one of its most popular and enduring products. Name and address of producer/distributor: Querciabella - Via di Barbiano, 17, 50022 Greve in Chianti (FI). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
