TASTING NOTES

Soave is one of the best-known Italian whites in the world, and this fame is largely due to the efforts and sacrifices of the Pieropan family. The winery was founded back in 1880 by Leonildo Pieropan. It is now managed by his grandson, also called Leonildo, helped by the untiring Teresita. The current Leonildo has always believed strongly in the land, even in the most difficult of times, and has indeed succeeded in making the company’s wines among the most popular and famous of the designation. Location, tradition, and quality are the three key words of their philosophy. With vineyards transitioning to organic farming, the most renowned of which being Calvarino and La Rocca, they now produce more than 500,000 bottles with an unmistakable character, where the mineral notes of the volcanic soil stand out and enrich the fruit notes of the Garganega, a native variety of the area. Soave Classico Calvarino by Pieropan is a Venetian white wine produced from Garganega (70%) and Trebbiano di Soave (30%) grapes, cultivated in volcanic soils at an altitude of between 200 and 300 metres and sourced from the vineyard of the same name. The harvest takes place in stages to ensure the best possible ripening of the two varieties of grape. This is followed by vinification and ageing on the fine lees in vitrified cement tanks for at least one year. The wine is then allowed to rest in the bottle for several months. In the glass, this wine is a deep straw yellow with golden reflections; on the nose, floral notes of ripe yellow fruit and sweet citrus dominate, with a finish that is reminiscent of hazelnuts and almonds. On the palate, it is elegant, fresh, and full-flavoured with a good body. A perfect everyday wine, we recommend pairing it with fish or shellfish. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Pieropan

Piper-Heidsieck is one of the most iconic and prestigious Champagne houses in France, founded in 1785 in Reims by Florens-Louis Heidsieck with the ambition of creating “a Champagne worthy of a queen,” to the point that the first cuvée was presented to Marie Antoinette. The current name was established in 1838 from the union between the Heidsieck family and Henri-Guillaume Piper, marking the beginning of an international expansion that would bring the house worldwide success. In 1995, a modern winery was inaugurated, featuring over 200 temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to vinify each plot separately. The blends are carefully crafted, and the wines are aged for extended periods to ensure elegance and complexity. Since 2018, the young and talented Émilien Boutillat has led the cellar, bringing freshness and innovation while honoring Piper-Heidsieck’s signature style. In 2022, the house became the first Champagne producer to earn the prestigious B-Corp certification, thanks to its commitment to environmental sustainability, transparency, and the use of renewable energy. Piper-Heidsieck is also one of the most awarded Champagne houses in the world and was named “Best Champagne House” by Falstaff in 2021. Today, Piper-Heidsieck represents the perfect balance of tradition and modernity: a house that combines history, innovation, style, and environmental awareness, offering Champagnes that embody French excellence and elegance. Producer/distributor name and address: Piper Heidsieck, Reims – France, 12 Allée du Vignoble. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
