We are in Menfi, on the east coast of Sicily between Lake Arancio, amidst deep, pebble-rich soils and at an altitude of up to 400 metres above sea level, where the Menfi DOC extends, encompassing wines produced within a 16-kilometre radius inland from Sciacca at Tenuta Ulmo, a historic site recently renovated as a winery by the Planeta family. Tenuta Ulmo is home to the two grape varieties that form the heart of this cuvée, grown in the Maroccoli and Ulmo vineyards: the former is drier and sunnier, ideal for Syrah, whilst the latter is clayier, perfect for Nero d’Avola. Nero d’Avola marries Syrah: a 50-50 blend. A Sicilian summer rosé that is fresh, youthful and playful on the palate. A brief maceration of a couple of hours in stainless steel follows the harvest, to extract just the right amount of polyphenols and give that rosé hue that captivates the eye. The must then ferments in stainless steel at a temperature of 15 degrees. 100 ml: E=292 kJ/70 kcal
The soft pink colour is reminiscent of a graceful ballerina dancing to the floral notes of wild strawberries, redcurrants and fruit salad, moving with exemplary ease through a fragrant rose garden.
A rosé to uncork on the beach when thirst strikes, refreshing and crisp, or to accompany everyday meals, even better when paired with white meats or seasonal vegetables.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 12–14°C.
