The alastro is a wild flower that grows spontaneously around the Tenuta Ulmo winery and is depicted on the label of this Sicilian white wine. It is right here in Menfi, on the east coast of Sicily between Lake Arancio, deep soils rich in pebbles and an altitude reaching up to 400 metres above sea level, that the Menfi DOC extends, encompassing wines produced in the area within 16 km inland from Sciacca. In this splendid soil and climate, Grecanico and Sauvignon Blanc are cultivated; the former accounts for 80% and the latter 20% of the blend, giving rise to the Alastro Menfi DOC white wine. The winemaking process involves leaving the must on the fine lees for 6 months in stainless steel tanks with bâtonnage, so as to enhance the two characteristic notes of the two base grape varieties: the minerality of Grecanico and the aromatic richness of Sauvignon. 100 ml: E=310 kJ/75 kcal
In the glass, the wine flows lightly and youthfully, whilst on the nose it reveals tropical notes of broom, peach and citron. On the palate, it reveals its true character: the power of Grecanico is tempered by the aromatic richness of Sauvignon, unfolding with greater vigour and highlighting aromas of white melon.
Mediterranean in style and eclectic in spirit. The perfect companion for your vegetarian dishes or a signature seafood platter. Alastro strikes a rare balance between the structure of Grecanico and the liveliness of Sauvignon Blanc.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 10–12°C.
