TASTING NOTES

Villa Poggio Salvi is located at the heart of the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG area. At an altitude of 300 and 500 metres above sea level, the terrain has a high content of marlstone and enjoys a sea breeze and the protection of Mount Amiata. These are the traits which, in 1979, convinced engineer Pierluigi Tagliabue to purchase and restructure the Villa Poggio Salvi enterprise. He is still managing the project personally with the help of his grandson, winemaker Luca Belingardi. The estate covers 21 hectares of Sangiovese Grosso vineyards. The winery, the beating heart of the company, was constructed under the villa. The symbol chosen to represent the enterprise is Pomona, the goddess of fruit, olives, and wines in Ancient Rome. With a woman’s face and hair made from grapes, the month of September, when the fruit and therefore the vineyards ripen, is dedicated to her. This Rosso di Montalcino is a dry red produced exclusively from Sangiovese Grosso grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand at the end of September and the must is fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The wine is matured for 12 months in large barrels of various sizes and is then allowed to rest in the bottle for another two months before leaving the winery. It is expected to be allowed to age for 10 years before being sold. It is ruby red in colour with purple reflections. On the nose, it has aromas of ripe berries, black pepper, and sweet spices. In the mouth, it is soft and medium-bodied with a velvety tannin taste. This is an everyday Tuscan wine which goes well with dishes based on red meat and with pasta or risotto. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Villa Poggio Salvi

Villa Poggio Salvi was established in Brunello di Montalcino in the hills around Siena close to the Tyrrhenian Sea, where the locally produced wine has been served to prominent personalities since the 16th century. The vineyards are in a perfect location, situated at an altitude between 300 and 520 metres above sea level, surrounded by mineral-rich soils and a crisp sea breeze. Today, Villa Poggio Salvi is one of the most important producers of Brunello di Montalcino in Toscana. The high-quality of the wines produced, renowned throughout the world, is obtained according to ancient traditions. The Tuscan farm was acquired by Pierluigi Tagliabue in 1979 and was gradually restructured and modernised. Today, at the hands of his grandson Jacopo Biondi Santis, the winery is run with love, passion and great expertise by one of the best wine producers in Montalcino. The aim of the Villa Poggio Salvi winery is to make traditional Italian wines more accessible and attractive to the market and young connoisseurs. The large wine cellar located below the villa is the beating heart of the company, where tradition and innovation are perfectly combined. Name and address of producer/distributor: Villa Poggio Salvi - Strada Provinciale 103 località poggio salvi, 53024 Castiglion del Bosco (SI). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
