TASTING NOTES

Soave is one of the best-known Italian whites in the world, and this fame is largely due to the efforts and sacrifices of the Pieropan family. The winery was founded back in 1880 by Leonildo Pieropan. It is now managed by his grandson, also called Leonildo, helped by the untiring Teresita. The current Leonildo has always believed strongly in the land, even in the most difficult of times, and has indeed succeeded in making the company’s wines among the most popular and famous of the designation. Location, tradition, and quality are the three key words of their philosophy. With vineyards transitioning to organic farming, the most renowned of which being Calvarino and La Rocca, they now produce more than 500,000 bottles with an unmistakable character, where the mineral notes of the volcanic soil stand out and enrich the fruit notes of the Garganega, a native variety of the area. Recioto di Soave Le Colombare DOCG is a white raisin wine, or passito, produced exclusively from Garganega grapes which undergo drying in a drying loft after being harvested. During this phase, which lasts until February, as well as losing water they develop the noble rot that gives them their unique sensory characteristics. After being fermented in stainless steel, the wine is aged in large wooden barrels for around two years. An intense golden yellow in colour, the wine is extremely elegant and complex on the nose: really ripe fruit and raisin notes combine with candied citrus fruit and sweet spices. On the palate, it is soft and warm with a sweetness that is not at all cloying. We recommend sipping this wine leisurely to avoid losing any of its aromatic nuances, or pairing it with dry pastries. THE WINERY

Pieropan

The history of the Pieropan winery is long and very interesting: it has been going on for more than a century in the name of quality viticulture and love for the Veneto region. The company is located, specifically, in the heart of the medieval town of Soave. Here, in the historic Palazzo Pullici, four generations of the Pieropan family have handed down the family secrets for growing and the production of grapes and excellent Veneto wines that represent the best of the territory and its history. A great knowledge of the soil and raw materials was combined with a great passion and in-depth study of the subject matter, always keeping up to date. A strong entrepreneurial spirit has done the rest, and thanks to all these elements the company has succeeded in the delicate task of representing one of the most interesting realities of the Veneto region without ever losing its traditional imprint, while always keeping up with the times. Growing of grapes, pressing, vinification and bottling all take place on site, resulting in a final product that has followed each step meticulously and is ready to surprise you. Name and address of producer/distributor: Pieropan - Via Giulio Camuzzoni, 3, 37038 Soave (VR). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
