TASTING NOTES

Montepulciano is an area where Sangiovese takes the name Prugnolo Gentile in the province of Siena, southeast of Florence. It was here that Poliziano was born in 1961, when Dino Carletti bought his first 22 hectares, which now number 170. The presence of clay and sand in the fossil-rich soil enhances the identity of Poliziano, a company that works sustainably, although not yet certified. The company's name is a tribute to the poet Angelo Ambrosini, also known as Poliziano. The winery's style respects the environment, but with a traditional touch: high planting density, selected and manual pruning, innovative winemaking techniques, introduction of the 'Cru' concept and maximum expression of the terroir; this is the mood of Poliziano under the guidance of Federico, Dino Carletti's grandson. Grape selection is very important, both in the vineyard and before vinification, which in turn takes place in conical vats, at a temperature of 26 degrees, to soften the rough tannins of the Sangiovese. Poliziano's red is a Sangiovese-based blend with 20% Merlot, Canaiolo and Colorino. The soil is rich in silt and clay with embedded fossils, and reaches up to 300 metres in altitude. The harvested grapes are destemmed, squeezed and the must obtained ferments in stainless steel on the skins for 12 days. Maturation is in stainless steel for 80% of the volume, the remaining 20% is in large oak for a total duration of 8 months. Nobile di Poliziano, is a deep, intense ruby red with spicy notes of currants, undergrowth, and humus. On the palate, it is soft, velvety and fresh, with a smooth and structured drinkability. Ideal with red meat, mature cheese or game. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Poliziano

Since its founding, the main goal of the Polvanera winery has been to create Pugliese wines of the highest quality, making the most of the characteristics of the soil and its precious resources. The oldest traditions were followed the best, so that the final product could tell the story of Puglia in all its most authentic character. An example? The winery itself, born in the heart of Puglia, was dug into the limestone rock at a depth of eight meters below the ground. This allows excellent preservation of wines, which also refine over time due to the constant temperature. These techniques, born from the oldest customs, have been placed side by side with more modern knowledge to create a multifaceted end product that can help you discover the history of the land in every glass. Among the winery's major productions are rosé wines, white wines, several types of sparkling wines, red wines and sweet wines. Name and address of producer/distributor: Polvanera - Strada Vic.le Lamie Marchesana, 601, 70023 Gioia del Colle (BA). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
