TASTING NOTES

Production

Grosjean’s Gamay is made from the eponymous Gamay grapes, a variety native to Burgundy that has found an ideal home in the Aosta Valley at an altitude of between 700 and 850 metres above sea level on steep, sunny mountain slopes. The grapes are destemmed and undergo maceration on the skins for 5–6 days with three pump-overs a day at a controlled temperature. This is followed by fermentation and ageing in stainless steel. E = 100ml. 371kJ/89kcal

Organoleptic Characteristics

This 100% Gamay is a well-balanced wine, with a brilliant ruby red colour and a fruity bouquet dominated by strawberry notes. It is delicately intense, complex and smooth, with good freshness and subtle tannic nuances.

Occasion and Pairing

Grosjean’s Gamay is excellent paired with cured meats, motzetta and lard, as well as traditional Aosta Valley soups.

Serving Temperature

To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16–18°C.

Allergens: Solfiti

THE WINERY

Grosjean

Nestled on the hillsides of Tuscany and surrounded by a stream of alluvial origin, the Guado al Melo vineyards stretch across the beautiful landscape of the Bolgheri DOC, dotted with pristine woods. The Guado al Melo farm is run by the family of Michele Scienza who, following the principles of sustainable agriculture, tries to limit intervention as much as possible both in the vineyard and in the production facility. Most of the vines are, in fact, of indigenous origin, and are treated avoiding manipulations that would change the natural characteristics of the grapes. For example, grass is allowed to grow at their feet in order to avoid the use of herbicides and to ensure a balanced hydration of the soil. Inside the Guado al Melo wine cellar, architecturally bewitching with the simple elegance of its colonnade, high-quality red wines are produced, without subjecting them to filtration or other invasive treatments. Surrounding the Podere Guado al Melo is an evocative museum itinerary, designed to recount the history and ancient culture of the area. Name and address of producer/distributor: Guado al Melo - Località Murrotto, 130/A, 57022 Castagneto Carducci LI. Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
