Livio Felluga represents one of the great names in Friulian vinification, through avant-garde winemaking aimed at enhancing the border area. Friuli Colli Orientali Friulano di Felluga is the traditional Friulian wine par excellence, with a strong personalitỳ and typicalitỳ. With a good structure and harmonious fruity and mineral complexity, it can reveal a characteristic bitter almond aftertaste. Cultivated mainly using the Guyot method, the Friulano vines are rooted in a terroir rich in Ponca, a characteristic soil consisting of marl and clay that gives the wines minerality and full flavour. The healthy, ripe grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and left to macerate and pressed to obtain a clarified must by decantation. This is followed by temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel and ageing on the lees for a few months to increase complexity and creaminess. Once bottled, it rests in thermo-conditioned rooms for ageing. Intense straw yellow in colour with golden reflections in the glass, Friulano DOC is fresh and mineral. Overall, it is harmonious, with excellent length. On the palate, spices such as ginger and saffron stand out, accompanied by a seductive almond finish. Citrus hints of grapefruit and cedar wood alternate with balsamic notes and menthol notes on the nose, continuing in a crescendo of white pepper fragrances, which blend together with scents of aromatic herbs such as thyme, laurel, rosemary and hints of Mediterranean scrub. An intriguing bitter almond accompanies the white and yellow fruit sensations. Traditional as an aperitif, it goes well with prosciutto, salami and sausages in general; it also pleasantly accompanies fish based dishes, fresh and fatty cheeses.
