TASTING NOTES

The Antinori family is dedicated to the production of the most renowned Tuscan wines through the use of techniques, secrets and passion for the territory innovative and avant-garde. The winery of Marchesi Antinori is the reference point for the wine production of the area, and is an expression of courage and wisdom in the production of wines that reflect the love for the territory, for an unforgettable final product. Their adventure in the Montalcino area is more recent: the Pian delle Vigne winery became their property in 1995. Today the entire estate located 6 km southwest of the town of Montalcino relies on 65 hectares of vineyards. The name of the estate and the wine (both in the declination Rosso di Montalcino and Brunello) comes from a railway inside the property from the 19th century. The vineyards of Sangiovese are located at an altitude of 130 meters s.l.m. on clay soils rich in limestone and skeleton. The approach of aging is to use large wood to not distort the grape but still give great elegance. Brunello di Montalcino Pian delle Vigne di Antinori is a Tuscan red wine made from Sangiovese grapes. These are transferred after soft pressing into stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation, with 15 days of maceration. After malolactic fermentation the wine is transferred to large wooden barrels, ranging in size from 30 to 80 hl for a two-year maturation. Then follows a long aging in bottle. The glass has an intense ruby red color. The nose is complex, a range of sensations ranging from red fruit to tertiary ones, such as chocolate, tobacco and spices. In the mouth the wine is important, robust, with a good freshness and smooth tannins. Excellent wine to accompany your Sunday lunches, they go well with braised red meat, game or mature cheeses. To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a serving temperature of 14/16 ºC. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Pian delle Vigne

Not far from Montalcino, in the heart of the Tuscan countryside, is Tenuta Pian delle Vigne. For years, the Antinori family has been taking care of its vineyard hectares and every stage of production, in search of an innovative and multifaceted end product. Despite the study of the most modern techniques and innovations in the field of viticulture, the work of the estate is always based on solid local traditions. The secrets of local wine cultivation and production are based on ancient knowledge handed down from generation to generation, and still form the basis of every stage of processing. The estate boasts some 184 hectares of land, stretching along the gentle contours of the Tuscan hills. There are about sixty hectares under vine, alternating on land 130 metres above sea level. The local microclimate and soil properties contribute to the creation of a prestigious and traditional Tuscan wine that best tells the story of the estate and the entire Montalcino area. The company is most famous for its production of Brunello, one of the most popular wines.
