TASTING NOTES

Production

Destemming, crushing, fermentation in steel and cement vats for 7 days at a controlled temperature between 26 and 30 °C, maceration on the skins 15 days. It follows aging in 70% new oak barrels and 30% of second pass, 18 months, 12 months in bottle.

Organoleptic Characteristics

The colour of the glass is intense and vivid ruby. The nose is expressed with nuances of ripe red fruits accompanied by spicy hints of vanilla and sweet tobacco, with hints of underbrush and mushrooms. The mouthfeel on the palate is wide, full and soft, with elegant tannins and good caloric content, indicating a great capacity for ageing. Persistent finish with mineral references and fruity pleasantness.

Occasion and Pairing

Wine for great occasions, it goes well with dishes based on red meat and main products, such as black truffle.

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia is located a short distance from the village of Bolgheri, Tuscany. Of all the wonderful farms in the region, this is perhaps the only one to stand on land praised by one of the greatest Italian poets of the 20th century: In fact, Giosuè Carducci had written a poem about the monumental cypress avenue that leads right to the Bolgheri area and the gentle contours of the hills dotted with vineyards. The area's enduring charm and privileged terroir location has motivated the work of the winery, which is driven to do more and more to produce Tuscan wines that live up to their provenance. A work marked by passion and love for the land and its unique characteristics, which was accompanied by a meticulous study of the latest technologies and techniques. Selective harvesting done by hand, microvinification and storage ageing lead to a flawless end result, perfect in every detail and rich in character.
