TASTING NOTES

Bolgheri Superiore Guado al Tasso is a prestigious Supertuscan, symbol par excellence of the terroir of Bolgheri and red wine in Italy. Spearhead for its Bordeaux cut of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The grapes are harvested and destemmed by hand, manually selected in the cellar choosing only the most mature bunches. After an initial short period of fermentation in steel barrels, the grapes are left to mature in wood for another year, at the end of which, the best batches are assembled and placed for another 6 months in small barrels before bottling. The wine Bolgheri Rosso Superiore Tenuta Guado al Tasso has a dark ruby red color. It smells of intense and complex fragrances that initially recall ripe red fruit and that progressively open to spicy and woody notes, with flavors of chocolate and leather. The palate is able to excite because very balanced, harmonious and elegant. A collector’s bottle that can age for more than 10 years in the cellar, it is perfect to be tasted in front of a warm fireplace in combination with a selection of slightly aged cheeses. To fully appreciate the style, Guado al Tasso must be served at a service temperature of 16/18 ºC.

THE WINERY

Belonging to the historic and renowned Marchesi Antinori wine family, the Guado al Tasso winery enjoys an excellent international reputation despite only being established in 1994. Situated in the Upper Maremma Tuscany, in the area of Bolgheri, it covers about 320 hectares, set in the beautiful setting of the so-called “Bolgherese amphitheatre”, a plain surrounded by wooded hills stretching down to the sea. It is the particularity of this setting that provides a unique microclimate to the vineyards cultivated here. The usual temperature fluctuations to which they are exposed guarantee that the grapes have a strong aromatic flavour and perfect maturation. In fact, compared to the other Antinori estates, such as the majestic Castello della Sala, at the Guado al Tasso winery the harvest is usually carried out at the end of August, rather than in September. Soils of heterogeneous composition, composed of clay, sand, silt or pebbles, are home to both French red grapes from which prestigious red wines, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, are produced, and to vines from which remarkable white wines and roses are produced.
