TASTING NOTES

Giuseppe Mascarello’s Barolo Riserva Ca’d Morissio represents the highest exaltation of the exceptional qualities of elegance and finesse of Barolo, through the choice of vinification as a Riserva. The grapes used come from a Cru that has been included among the 11 historic vineyards of the first category in the history of Barolo. Finesse, elegance and quality, this Barolo Riserva comes from Cru Monprivato in the part called Cascina Mascarello, which in the local dialect is called "Ca’d Morissio". The vineyard is located in the municipality of Castiglione Falletto, in a soil of Miocene origin defined by silty-clay marl of good structure with active limestone. This characteristic is recognizable in wine, giving particular qualities of structure, aromatic finesse, gustatory persistence, elegance and ability to evolve. The harvest takes place manually, the fermentation follows the traditional method that requires a very long maceration. The aging takes place in Slavonian oak barrels of medium capacity and lasts 40 months. Ca’d Morissio Riserva is presented to the glass with a garnet red color, embellished by interesting orange reflections. The nose is broad with hints of red fruit, cherry, currant, raspberry, violet, anise, pepper and other spices. It gradually releases its aromas to the palate with an austere and charming taste in its fine and ethereal personality. The tannin is smooth and inserted in a robust body and still alive with freshness. Ca’d Morissio is an icon not only for Barolo, but for the whole world of wine and excellent in combination with game meat or mature cheeses. To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a serving temperature of 16/18 ºC. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio

The members of the Giuseppe Mascarello family have been involved in viticulture for over a century and a half, running the Cascina Manescotto in the municipality of La Morra. For a long time, the family imposed strict rules on itself to protect the environment and the land on which the vineyards stand: the Nebbiolo has long been the symbolic and most prized variety in Langhe vinification. In this area of Piedmont, it has been able to find the right combination with a terroir of great vocation, knowing how to express itself at sublime levels in a wine of marked personality, intensity of aromas, great velvety tannins and the possibility of great evolution and endurance over time. The Mascarello e Figlio family's vineyards are located on an estate of about 15 hectares, all of them in the Barolo area. Name and address of producer/distributor: Azienda Agricola Giuseppe Mascarello e Figlio di Mauro Mascarello s.s., Località Borgonuovo, 108, 12060 Monchiero (CN). Products from this winery should be stored in a cool, dry place away from heat sources.
