The Barbera d'Alba by Bartolo Mascarello is a pure and mature expression of Barbera, a red wine of great richness and complexity, with excellent aging potential. The wine undergoes maceration for 12-15 days at temperatures between 25-28°C, with frequent pump-overs in stainless steel tanks. After the pressing and the completion of alcoholic fermentation, the Barbera enters the aging phase, supported in 50hL oak barrels for a period of at least 18 months. It is then refined for 2-3 months in stainless steel tanks before bottling.
In the glass, it appears as an intense ruby red with garnet hues. On the nose, strong and distinct aromas of morello cherry, plum, red fruit, and berries emerge, enriched by spicy, earthy, herbal, and balsamic notes. On the palate, the wine delivers the typical Barbera experience: an intense, juicy fruit is met with a striking acidity that provides remarkable freshness and liveliness. The long aging in wood softens and rounds the wine, balancing the otherwise bold tannic structure. The finish is particularly fresh, harmonious, and notably persistent.
A perfect wine for meditation, it also pairs wonderfully with aged cheeses or game meats.
To fully appreciate its style, this wine should be served at a temperature of 16-18°C.
