TASTING NOTES

TheAmarone della Valpolicella Campo dei Gigli is a red wine produced by Tenuta Sant'Antonio, certified as a DOCG Amarone della Valpolicella (Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin). Tenuta Sant'Antonio was established in 1989 when the four entrepreneurial Castagnedi brothers, Armando, Massimo, Tiziano and Paolo expanded their passion for viticulture and bought 30 more hectares of vineyards in Mezzane, to add to their father’s 20 vineyards in Colognola ai Colli. Today, they manage about 100 hectares located between the largest and most important designations in the Veneto region, namely between Valpolicella and the area of Soave. Classic varieties such as Corvina, Corvinone and Rondinella as well as Garganega, Trebbiano di Soave and Chardonnay all feel right at home here. The vineyards stretch along the valleys of the Illasi and Mezzane hills, close to the Alps, 120 to 320 metres above sea level. The climate is softened by the breeze from Lake Garda, with compact calcium-rich soils. All these components are enhanced by almost completely natural production processes in the vineyard, as well as in the cellar, so that each cultivated variety can express itself and the land it comes from. The Castagnedi brothers’ production philosophy is based both on their in-depth wine making expertise and a deep respect for the environment, paying close attention to every stage of the supply chain. The company’s flagship wine is produced with this exact same meticulous care. Amarone della Valpolicella Campo dei Gigli DOCG (Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin) is made in the property’s single oldest vineyard, which is the inspiration behind the company logo. Produced with 70% Corvina and Corvinone, 20% Rondinella, 5% Oseleta and 5% Croatina, once the grapes are harvested, they are left to dry for 3 months in ventilated rooms. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in open French oak barrels, followed by a 3-year aging in French oak barrels. The result is an impenetrable ruby red wine. The wine has an intense and varied aroma of red berry fruit jam, spicy notes of liquorice and black pepper, accompanied by hints of chocolate, tobacco and cedar. The mouthfeel is full-bodied but elegant, with well integrated tannins and mineral sensations. With an incredible persistent finish. Perfect for important occasions, it goes well with slow-cooked red meat or aged cheeses. A perfect wine to mull things over. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Tenuta Sant'Antonio

Tenuta di Sant'Antonio was born out of a family passion that is as strong as it is enduring. It stands in the area of San Zeno di Colognola ai Colli, in the heart of the Valpolicella area. A privileged position that, since its foundation, has allowed the company to start on the right foot and become one of the most interesting wineries in the Veneto region. It's certainly not luck: the commitment and study that the founding family has poured into the territory has paid off, to create Veneto wines of the highest quality, ready to tell the best of the territory in every glass. A work made of studying the most modern techniques, wisely combined with the oldest traditions, to get the most out of the land and grapes. All this is always done with full respect for the timing of each vine, the unique characteristics of the soil and local knowledge, to obtain precious Veneto red wines all to be discovered. Name and address of producer/distributor: Tenuta Sant'Antonio - via Ceriani, 23, 37030 Colognola ai Colli (VR).
