TASTING NOTES

In the heart of Trentino Alto Adige, one of the most established regions on the national wine scene, Cantina Bolzano was created in 2001 from the merger of the Gries and Santa Maddalena wineries. Strengthened by the cooperation of 224 wine-growing members and very high production standards, this winery is now seen as a top player in the wine industry. Kellerei Bozen's Sud Tirol - Alto Adige DOC Gewürztraminer originates from the slopes surrounding Bolzano between 400 and 600 metres above sea level; timing of the harvest is crucial for a good Traminer to have the right aromatic complexity. The grapes are harvested when fully ripened between late September and early October, and after a short cold maceration and a low-temperature fermentation to preserve the aromatic profile the wine is aged for several months in stainless steel. It is bottled while still young and crisp. Straw yellow in colour tending to golden, this wine delivers notes of lychee, yellow grapefruit, and wild rose in the glass. Hints of cinnamon and cloves. Full and warm on the palate with a soft and intense fruity flavour. Long, slightly bitter and typical on the finish. Ideal served with fish and spicy dishes, with fresh cheeses, or with a prawn salad. Read more Read less
THE WINERY

Cantina di Bolzano

Bronze-coloured aluminium walls stand out among the surrounding vineyards, decorated with branches resembling stylised vine leaves. This is the new symbol of Bolzano's winegrowing tradition: the Cantina Bolzano - Kellerei Bozen. The design of the building symbolises the quality and excellence of Alto Adige wines, the first CasaClima Wine®-certified wine cellar. It is here that the winegrowers dedicate themselves to making the wines of Kellerei Bozen unique, combining new knowledge and ancient traditions. Characterised by constant dedication, care before and after harvest and maturation of the wine in the cellars, under the watchful eye of experienced winegrowers, Cantina Bolzano offers an inimitable selection of fine wines. The diversity of the Alto Adige wine region, which is expressed in the nature and wines of the region, offers favourable conditions for the cultivation of varied, quality wines, from the white Gewürztraminer to Alto Adige red wines such as Pinot Noir. Today, 224 winegrowing members work there, united by passion, variety and the tradition of their land.
